There is power and grace in the "in-between"
I gave birth to my son at home with a midwife in 1995. The word doula was unknown to me at that time, but I was using the help of intermediaries in my own birthing process by hiring a midwife and her assistant. I also recruited four friends, a housemate, and my primary care physician for additional support. Unaware, I was acting as my own birth doula.
