So happy your librarian gives great customer service!!

If you are into sinking ships when you get back to Ireland if you have the time take the train or bus to Cobh they have a local heritage museum with info about sinking of the Lusitana and also a famine ship. I’ve given a couple links I find interesting.

We are on way to Vietnam from Taipei after being delayed this morning due to an error on one of the visas. Luckily because $$$ can work miracles our travel agent in Vietnam was able to get an expeditad visa within 3 hours so we could book another flight this evening. An angel United Airlines agent did not charge a fee for this probably because there was a lot of space on the flight. Yay!

I also share an interest in the Titanic. When I was a Library Media Specialist here in Lincoln, some teachers and I created a unit for 6th graders (who were still elementary then) based around the Titanic. The movie had just come out and interest was high. Our production para-professional created a huge cross-sectional drawing of the ship which we displayed in the hallway, so the various levels and areas of the ship could be seen. The teachers and I researched names, some famous and some not so much, of the ship's passengers. The kids then chose a name written on a slip of paper that they would then research through from pre-journey to the sinking. Another super para-professional turned out to be a complete Titanic mega-fan who had a collection of mostly replica items from the ship (menus, photos, tea cups, cutlery, newspapers, etc...) which he displayed in the school library. He and his partner had even purchased land in the Halifax, Nova Scotia area that they were going to move to post-retirement. It was one of the best experiences I had in my Library Media career. So glad you wrote about your personal observances and the amazing librarian who assisted along the way!

Wow - those kids were fortunate to have you, and the teachers manage a project like that - I love the focus of a name to research from pre-journey to the sinking. The para who purchased land in Halifax hopefully plans to winter elsewhere - I don't know how Canadians do winter. Cheers!
